What does a hybrid replace?
A hybrid replaces a hard to hit long iron, typically a 3, 4 or 5 iron. The wider, hollow head lowers the centre of gravity, so the ball launches higher and lands softer than the equivalent iron.
What hybrid loft do I need?
Match the loft to the iron you are replacing. A 3 hybrid is around 19 degrees, a 4 hybrid around 22 degrees and a 5 hybrid around 25 degrees. Keeping a sensible gap to your longest iron and your fairway wood avoids overlap.
Are hybrids easier to hit than irons?
For most amateurs, yes. The forgiving head shape and higher launch make long approach shots and tee shots on tight holes more reliable than long irons.
