CADDYCOMPARE

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 May 2026

1. Who we are

CaddyCompare (caddycompare.com) is an independent golf equipment price comparison and review aggregation service aimed at UK golfers. We are not affiliated with any manufacturer or retailer.

If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].

2. What data we collect

Browsing CaddyCompare without signing in collects minimal data. Creating an account to set price alerts adds a small amount of profile and preference data, listed below.

  • Usage data: pages visited, time on site, and referring URL, collected via anonymised server logs and/or analytics tools. Not linked to any individual.
  • Contact enquiries: if you email us, we retain your email address and message solely to respond to your enquiry.
  • Account data (only if you sign up): email address, display name, and the authentication identifiers issued by our identity provider (Clerk — see section 4). If you sign in with Google or another social provider, we receive the basic profile fields that provider returns. We never see or store your password.
  • Price-alert data (only if you set alerts): the products you are watching, your chosen price threshold, the condition you want (new / like-new / used / any), and an audit log of when each alert fired, the retailer involved, and whether the email was sent. We use this to send you the alert emails and to deduplicate sends.

3. Cookies

We use first-party cookies necessary for the site to function. The only third-party script we load is Skimlinks (link monetisation), and only if you choose “Accept all” on the cookie banner (see section 4). We do not run display advertising or ad-network tracking.

  • cookie_consent:records the choice you make on the cookie banner so we don't prompt you again. Local-storage entry, never sent to our servers.
  • Authentication cookies (Clerk): __client, __client_uat, and __session are set by Clerk when you sign in. They hold the encrypted session that keeps you signed in across page navigations and short-lived JWTs that authenticate your requests to our API. These are strictly necessary for sign-in functionality and are not used for tracking. Signing out clears them.
  • Session cookies: short-lived cookies used to maintain basic site functionality. Expire when you close your browser.
  • Skimlinks cookies (only after “Accept all”): set by Skimlinks when its script is loaded, to attribute outbound clicks and any resulting purchase to us for commission. Not loaded at all under “Essential only”. See section 4 and Skimlinks' own privacy policy.

Other affiliate-tracking cookies are not set by us. Aside from Skimlinks (above, loaded only with your consent), affiliate cookies are set by the destination retailer's domain when you click an outbound Buy link. See section 4 for detail.

4. Third parties and sub-processors

We use a small number of third-party services to operate CaddyCompare. Where these services process personal data on our behalf, they act as our sub-processors and are bound by their own terms.

Clerk (authentication)

Clerk Inc. (USA) provides the sign-in flow, session management, and account storage. When you create an account, your email, display name, and any social login identifiers are stored by Clerk. We retrieve your email and display name over their API for use inside our application (e.g. to send you price-alert emails). Clerk's handling is governed by their Privacy Policy. Clerk transfers data to the United States; standard contractual clauses cover this transfer.

Resend (transactional email)

Resend Inc. (USA) sends our price-alert emails on our behalf from [email protected]. When an alert fires, we hand Resend the recipient address, the email body, and a tracking identifier so we can record delivery status. Resend retains delivery metadata to provide that status. See Resend's Privacy Policy. Resend transfers data to the United States; standard contractual clauses cover this transfer.

eBay Partner Network (affiliate)

Outbound links to eBay listings route via rover.ebay.com, which sets a tracking cookie on your browser to attribute any subsequent purchase back to us. The data shared with eBay when you click such a link includes our publisher identifier, an opaque click reference, your IP address, browser user-agent, and the URL you came from. If you go on to make a purchase, the value and category of that purchase are shared with us in aggregate for commission accounting; we never see your personal eBay account details, payment info, or shipping address.

eBay's use of your data is governed by their User Privacy Notice. You can review and adjust eBay's own cookie choices via their Cookie Notice.

Skimlinks (link monetisation)

Skimlinks Ltd (UK, part of Connexity / Taboola) operates a link-monetisation service. If you choose “Accept all” on our cookie banner, we load Skimlinks' script from skimresources.com, which automatically turns some outbound retailer links into affiliate links so that, if you click through and buy, the sale is attributed to us for commission. To do this Skimlinks may set cookies and collect data such as the pages and links you interact with on our site, your IP address, browser and device information, and the referring URL. It does not receive your CaddyCompare account details, nor your payment or shipping information at the retailer.

Skimlinks loads only after you choose “Accept all”; choosing “Essential only” keeps it off entirely. Skimlinks' handling of your data is governed by their Privacy Policy. Skimlinks may transfer data outside the UK / EEA under standard contractual clauses.

5. How we use your data

We use the data we collect to:

  • Operate and improve the CaddyCompare website
  • Understand which features and content are most useful to visitors
  • Authenticate signed-in users and maintain their sessions across page loads
  • Send the price-alert emails you have specifically asked for, and only those emails (see section 6)
  • Respond to contact enquiries

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

6. Transactional emails & unsubscribe

The only emails we send to account holders are transactional price-alert notifications — one email when a product you set an alert for drops to or below your chosen threshold. We do not send newsletters, promotional emails, or any marketing communications.

Each alert email includes a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer, and supports the inbox-level Unsubscribe button surfaced by Gmail, Apple Mail, and similar clients (RFC 8058). Either action pauses the specific alert. You can also edit, pause, or delete any alert from /account while signed in.

To stop all alert emails entirely, delete each alert from your account, or delete your account itself (see section 8).

7. Data retention

Server logs are retained for up to 30 days. Contact enquiries are retained for as long as necessary to resolve the matter. Anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

Account datais retained for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account (via the avatar menu > Manage account > Delete account) removes your Clerk record and all data we hold about you, including alerts and the audit history of those alerts.

Price alerts are retained until you delete them or your account. Alert event history (a record of each fire-attempt — timestamp, retailer, status) is retained alongside the parent alert and is purged when the alert or the account is deleted.

8. Your rights (UK GDPR)

If you are based in the UK or EEA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict how we process your data
  • Receive a portable copy of your data

Self-service options if you have an account:

  • Access / portability: the endpoint GET /api/account/export returns a JSON file containing your profile, every alert you have set, and the full fire-history of those alerts. Authenticated with your normal Clerk session.
  • Correction:profile details (email, name) are managed in the avatar menu > Manage account.
  • Deletion: avatar menu > Manage account > Delete account removes everything in one action. Per-alert deletion is available from /account.
  • Email-level unsubscribe: the unsubscribe link in any alert email pauses that alert immediately.

For anything that can't be served self-service, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

Affiliate cookie controls.Skimlinks loads only if you choose “Accept all”; choose Essential only to keep it off, and use the Cookie preferenceslink in the footer to change your choice at any time. eBay's own tracking script is never loaded before you click an affiliate link, so you can avoid eBay's affiliate cookies by not clicking the Buy / View on retailer buttons. Browser-level cookie controls and the destination retailer's own cookie preferences page also apply.

If you believe we have mishandled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

9. Third-party content

CaddyCompare aggregates review content from public YouTube channels and golf publications. We link to original content and do not host third-party video or articles. Visiting a linked video or article is subject to that platform's own privacy policy.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. Contact
