SIM Max D

CaddyIndex™ breakdown — what the agentic research found across each of the six performance dimensions, with cited sources.

70CaddyIndex™confidence 0.74
Best for

You're a high-HCP (12-30) slow-to-moderate swing-speed player (70-100mph) who slices the ball and wants the most slice-correcting fairway in the 2020 SIM line — comfortable with the imposed draw bias and a bonded hosel.

Avoid if

You want to shape shots intentionally (especially fade), you don't slice, you want adjustable hosel tuning, or you want current-generation tech — the brand now has 5 newer generations to choose from including dedicated draw fairways.

Pros

  • Slice killer — made for the golfer who just needs a little extra help getting the face shut at impact
  • Up to 10 yards of draw bias gain thanks to lighter, higher-launching shafts and extra loft vs the standard Max
  • 190cc head — the largest in the line, confidence-inspiring footprint at address for high-HCP and slice-prone golfers
  • Reviewer testing: felt the best of the three offerings — easier to get the face closed and make solid center contact

Cons

  • Pronounced draw bias actively imposes shape — players who want to fade lose this option
  • Bonded hosel — no adjustable loft sleeve (same constraint as the standard sibling)
  • Now 5 years old (2020 release) — superseded by SIM2 Max D (2021) and several generations since; modest age penalty applies
  • Only 3 loft options offered (3W/16°, 5W/19°, 7W/22°) — narrow spec range, no rocket-3 or 9W option

Forgiveness

Reviewer testing: since the club is draw biased, it was easier to turn over and find the center of the face, so many of the shots felt more solid than the other SIM fairway woods. 190cc head — the largest of the line. Manufacturer: delivers all of the benefits of the Max in a draw-biased design to help golfers who struggle with a slice or block. C300 steel face + Twist Face + V-Steel sole + 190cc footprint = high-MOI forgiveness package. Above-average forgiveness — the draw bias actively helps slicers find centeredness, which is real-world forgiveness for the target user.

80

Distance

Manufacturer: the head gains up to 10 yards of draw bias thanks to lighter, higher launching shafts and a little extra of loft over the standard sibling. Explosive distance with high launch and mid spin. Reviewer testing: distance improved because of a decrease in side spin and shots that flew straighter. However, the lighter shafts and extra loft trade peak distance for draw and launch. Above-average distance for slicers — distance gain through straighter flight, not peak ball speed.

60

Workability

Reviewer testing: the head is a slice killer and made for the golfer who just needs a little extra help getting the face shut at impact. Manufacturer: a more heel-side CG location to help golfers who fight a slice or can otherwise benefit from weighting, which helps to square the face at impact. The pronounced draw bias actively imposes a shape — players who want to fade lose this option. Below-average workability by design — slice-correcting heel-CG actively prevents intentional shape-shifting.

78

Feel

Reviewer testing: the draw-biased head felt the best of the three offerings. It was easier to get the face closed and make solid, center-of-the-face contact with almost every ball. C300 steel face delivers the same tactile signature as the standard sibling. The easier-to-square head produces more frequent center contact, which translates to a more solid feel. Above-average feel for a 2020 game-improvement fairway — easier contact = better felt feedback.

74

Sound

Per general line review coverage: the C300 steel face construction has that distinct snap sound associated with the brand's woods. The sound is very snappy and almost tinny — it mirrors the sound of the standard sibling. Mid-tier acoustic — same C300 acoustic signature as the standard sibling, neither praised nor criticized for this head specifically.

74

Looks at address

Manufacturer: the head has the largest footprint of the 3 different fairway wood offerings, coming in at 190 cc. Larger oversized head can look intimidating to skilled players but is confidence-inspiring for high-HCP / slice-prone golfers. Carbon crown + steel body — same two-tone aesthetic as the standard sibling. Average address profile — game-improvement footprint that targets the slice-prone, less polished for skilled eyes.
