0311 3X Forged
CaddyIndex™ breakdown: what our research found across each of the six performance dimensions, with cited sources.
You want a forged, full-face wedge that holds its gapping shot to shot - a consistency-first pick around £160 that still opens up for greenside creativity.
You need multiple grind options for firm or soft turf, or the maximum spin and softest feel of a milled wedge - look at the Sugar Daddy II.
Pros
- The most consistent wedge in 2022 robot testing - leading the field for carry and dispersion
- Full-face grooves milled to the same spec as the premium Sugar Daddy II, with high-toe weighting for spin on open-face shots
- Triple-forged 8620 carbon steel with a medium-soft, solid feel and a crisp impact click
- Robotic polishing tightens consistency at less than half the price of the milled version - around £160
Cons
- Just one neutral sole grind - far less lie and condition customisation than multi-grind tour lines
- Spins a few hundred rpm less than the milled Sugar Daddy II
- Feel is noticeably firmer than the milled version, if still soft for the category
By dimension
Forgiveness
Strong for a forged wedge - 2022 robot testing ranked it the most consistent wedge of the year for carry and dispersion, and top-five for accuracy. High Toe Weighting positions the weight in line with open-face shots for greater impact consistency, paired with full-face grooves that aid contact toward the toe. Forgiving by wedge standards despite the compact head.
Distance
Excellent distance control - 2022 robot testing placed it first for consistency, the most efficient wedge of the year for carry and dispersion. The higher CG produces flatter, more penetrating trajectories and higher spin that tighten yardage control on scoring shots. Among the more dependable wedges for repeatable gap distances.
Workability
Versatile but single-grind - just one neutral sole grind across the seven lofts, with front-to-back curvature for bounce on full swings and relief for flop shots. Only one sole design is available, but it is versatile, allows creativity and fits most players reasonably well; the moderate heel-toe taper lets the face open, though the lack of multiple grinds caps shaping range versus multi-grind tour lines.
Feel
Solid forged feel, firmer than milled - a medium-soft feel at impact from the 8620 carbon steel, with centered contact very solid and satisfying, though noticeably firmer than the milled 0311. The tight grain structure of the triple forging gives a pure resonance and excellent feel. Among the better forged wedge feels, a step behind the premium milled version.
Sound
Crisp, low-pitched note - a crisp snap on contact with premium balls and a low-pitched click, the sound turning a touch duller on mishits to add feedback through the hands. The forged grain structure gives an outstanding feel and sound experience at impact. A clean, satisfying forged acoustic.
Looks at address
Clean and traditional - a compact size and traditional shape with a slightly straighter leading edge and a bit more shine than the milled version. Robotic polishing gives tighter shaping consistency, with Chrome or Xtreme Dark finishes available. A premium, understated tour look.
