Best for

You're a 0-15 HCP at 85-115mph who wants the longest 2024 players-distance iron + class-leading hollow-body forgiveness + buttery-soft feel + progressive face design (long-iron speed + short-iron precision).

Avoid if

You need top accuracy (use Apex CB 24 or Mizuno Pro 245), you want a pure-shotmaker classic blade (use the Apex MB 24), or you fight a draw (the Pro 24's draw bias compounds the miss).

Pros

  • Longest 5-iron in 2024 MGS Player's Iron testing for 60% of testers
  • Genuinely remarkable forgiveness — exceptionally tight grouping front-to-back and left-to-right + 5-10yd longer than CB/MB
  • First Apex iron with hollow body construction (Forged 455 face cup in long irons + forged 1025 face plate in short irons) + urethane microspheres + Dynamic Sole Design
  • Buttery soft at impact — much softer than earlier models + better fit for mid-handicappers vs Pro 21

Cons

  • Lacks the accuracy and control that other player's irons possess — ranks towards the bottom in 2024 Player's Iron accuracy scoring
  • Consistent draw characteristics in testing — biased toward right-to-left spin, not neutral
  • Noticeably bigger profile + thicker topline + more prevalent offset vs Pro 21 — slight visual regression for pure players
  • Premium pricing at ~£200 per club + custom fit only

Forgiveness

Solid

Apex Pro 24 irons are more forgiving than the Apex Pro 21's. Genuinely remarkable forgiveness stands out, with exceptionally tight grouping of balls both front to back and left to right during testing. Hollow body construction pairs a forged face with a forged 1025 carbon steel body — patented urethane microspheres work to dampen sound and improve feel while still allowing the face to flex for high ball speeds across the face. Tungsten toe and tip weights provide the kind of stability that has mis-hits finding the front of the green rather than the bunker. Top-tier forgiveness — improvement over Pro 21 + 'exceptionally tight grouping' + hollow body + Forged 455 face cup in long irons + tungsten toe/tip weights.

88

Distance

Excellent

For 60% of testers, the Callaway Apex Pro 5-iron was the longest iron in testing out of all of the other iron models — the longest iron in the player's iron test. Pro iron carried between 5-10 yards further than both the CB and MB models, with the additional technology in the head accounting for gains beyond what the one-degree stronger loft would suggest. 7-iron 140 yards carry + 101mph ball speed. Progressive face design — 3, 4 and 5 irons featuring a Forged 455 face cup to bolster ball speed and forgiveness. Top-tier distance — longest 2024 players iron in MGS testing + 5-10yd longer than CB/MB siblings + progressive Forged 455 face cup in long irons.

78

Workability

Strong

The Apex Pro model is noticeably bigger with a thicker top line. Profile is a bit bigger which should make the Apex Pro 24 more accessible to mid handicappers than the Pro 21 irons were. Only hints of assistance being the slightly thicker top line, wider sole, and more prevalent offset. Testing showed consistent draw characteristics with every shot showing a right-to-left spin. Above-average workability — slight regression vs Apex Pro 21 (bigger profile + more offset reduces shape control + slight draw bias); still players-iron territory.

90

Feel

Class-leading

For the first time ever in an Apex iron, a hollow body construction pairs a forged face with a forged 1025 carbon steel body to deliver a premium, ultra-soft feel. Clubs felt buttery soft at impact. New Apex Pros are much softer than earlier models. Sound/feel is soft, solid, and muted with good impact, with no harshness on mishits or slight mishits. Feel of the Apex Pro 24 iron is very similar to the 21 model, but it was found to be even more satisfying. Top-tier feel — premium ultra-soft hollow-body forged feel + 'buttery soft' impact + softer than 21 predecessor + no harshness on mishits.

88

Sound

Excellent

They zip off the face with a pleasing low-pitched sound. Patented urethane microspheres work to dampen sound and improve feel while still allowing the face to flex. Sound/feel is soft, solid, and muted with good impact. Consistent with others saying that the feel is improved in this generation. Top-tier sound — pleasing low-pitched acoustic + urethane microsphere damping + soft, solid, muted impact + improved over Pro 21 generation.

86

Looks at address

Excellent

The Apex Pro model is noticeably bigger with a thicker top line, but it sets up very nicely even with its offset, with the thicker top line melting into the background at setup. Clean lines provide the feeling of a 'players' iron, with the only hints of assistance being the slightly thicker top line, wider sole, and more prevalent offset. Profile is a bit bigger than Apex Pro 21. Above-average address — clean players-iron lines + thicker topline melts into background at setup + slight regression vs Pro 21's slimmer profile.
