Vokey SM8
CaddyIndex™ breakdown: what our research found across each of the six performance dimensions, with cited sources.
You want a tour-benchmark wedge with the most versatile grind range, accurate forward-CG flight and a solid feel - fitted to your game.
You want the newest spin tech, or you need a forgiving game-improvement head - a newer Vokey or a cavity-back wedge suits better.
Pros
- Forward, progressive CG - the face wants to square up at impact for notable accuracy and tighter dispersion
- Vokey's six tour-proven grinds (F/S/M/D/K/L) - the versatility benchmark
- Spin Milled grooves, 100% inspected, with micro-grooves for partial shots and the most durable groove in golf
- Solid, controlled feel with a crisp tick - a wonderfully appealing sound-and-feel intersection
Cons
- A players' wedge - modest forgiveness versus a game-improvement design
- A 2020 model - newer Vokeys (SM10/SM11) refine spin and CG further
- Premium pricing for a fitted wedge
By dimension
Forgiveness
Accurate for a players' wedge - the forward CG creates a club face that simply wants to square up at impact, giving notable accuracy with the ball going where aimed, and tighter grouping than the SM7. Still a tour-style wedge, but the forward-CG design adds real accuracy.
Distance
Consistent and controlled - the progressive CG (low in the gap wedges, high in the lobs) gives consistent distance and trajectory across the loft range, flying 2-3 yards higher than the SM7 with tighter grouping, with strong, controllable spin. Dependable, repeatable distance control.
Workability
The benchmark grind range - six tour-proven grinds (F/S/M/D/K/L) to fit every swing type, turf condition and shot preference, plus WedgeWorks custom options, with elite shot-making versatility. The standard against which wedge workability is measured.
Feel
Solid, stable and controlled - the feel is solid, as in stable and controlled rather than slab-of-granite hard, the intersection of sound and feel wonderfully appealing, a premium cast feel. Among the better cast-wedge feels.
Sound
A crisp tick - a crisp tick on short shots and full swings, a sound that pairs appealingly with the feel, a clean, premium impact note. A satisfying, refined acoustic.
Looks at address
The classic tour shape - refined shapes and cosmetics with four finishes (Tour Chrome, Brushed Steel, Jet Black, Raw) and extensive WedgeWorks personalization, a timeless, premium Vokey profile. Among the best-looking wedges in golf.
