P770
CaddyIndex™ breakdown — what the agentic research found across each of the six performance dimensions, with cited sources.
You're a low-to-mid handicapper who wants a compact, great-looking players' iron with class-leading forgiveness and a tight, consistent flight.
You're chasing maximum distance (the P790), or you want a true blade for workability.
Pros
- Class-leading forgiveness for a players-distance iron - 4th for forgiveness with extremely tight carry, ball-speed and dispersion deviations
- FLTD CG progressively lowers the centre of gravity - higher launch and playability in the long irons, more spin in the scoring irons
- A forged 4140 L-face on a soft 8620 hollow body - stable, solid feel that doesn't sound hollow
- Better-looking than the 2020, especially the long irons at address, with a more consistent flight through the set
Cons
- Distance doesn't impress - it ranks 15th for distance among players-distance irons
- Negligible performance gains over the 2020 - mostly a looks and consistency refinement
- A compact players' iron - for better ball strikers
By dimension
Forgiveness
Best-in-class for a players' iron - 4th for forgiveness among players-distance irons with extremely tight standard deviations for carry, ball speed, backspin and dispersion and just 6.8 yards of toe dropoff. Class-leading forgiveness for a compact players' iron.
Distance
Not the strength - ranks just 15th for distance and doesn't impress on raw length, though it carries roughly 6 yards more in the 7-iron than other players' irons from the higher, steeper flight. Good but not class-leading distance.
Workability
Compact and shapeable - the compact players' shape gives shot-shaping control, a workable, smaller head. Good workability for a players-distance iron, above the larger P790.
Feel
Stable and solid - the forged 4140 L-face on the soft 8620 hollow body gives a stable, solid feel with a spring off the face, and it didn't feel as hollow as expected. Excellent feel for a hollow players-distance iron.
Sound
Not hollow - it didn't sound as hollow as expected, with a solid impact note and a muted, controlled acoustic. A refined sound for a hollow players-distance iron.
Looks at address
Better than the 2020 - a more visually appealing shape, especially the long irons at address, with a clean, compact players' profile. One of the best-looking players-distance irons of its era.
