Milled Grind 2
CaddyIndex™ breakdown: what our research found across each of the six performance dimensions, with cited sources.
You're a TaylorMade fan or better player who wants a precision-milled tour wedge with a soft on-centre feel and Tiger-inspired sole milling.
You want the highest greenside spin or a forgiving head with a lively mishit feel - newer wedges spin more and the TPU insert deadens off-centre strikes.
Pros
- A premium P-7TW-style milled sole for consistent bounce and shaping, with Tiger Woods design input
- Soft, responsive on-centre feel from the TPU back-cavity insert, with a bold click
- A raw face that rusts to reduce glare and adds friction for a stable flight
- Two grinds (Standard Bounce and Low Bounce C) for swing and condition fit
Cons
- Only average spin despite the raw face - other wedges are noticeably higher-spinning
- The TPU insert over-dampens mishits - off-centre strikes can feel dead
- A boxy, square look that doesn't suit everyone, and an elite-player focus over forgiveness
By dimension
Forgiveness
Elite-focused, not forgiving - the MG2 is aimed at elite players and is not a forgiveness-focused model, with the TPU insert over-dampening so off-center strikes feel dead. A tour-style wedge for better players. Demanding, with little help on the miss.
Distance
Adequate, not class-leading - average spin despite the raw face, enough to stop the ball on full swings and long pitches, but other current wedges are noticeably higher-spinning, with a stable flight and less skid from the raw face. Dependable distance control, if not the tightest in class.
Workability
Tour-grade shaping - two grinds, Standard Bounce for moderate conditions and a Low Bounce C grind with extra heel and toe relief for versatility, the P-7TW-style CNC-milled sole giving precise, repeatable turf interaction. Good shot-making control for a better player, if only two grinds.
Feel
Soft on center, dead on the miss - impact feels soft but responsive on center thanks to the TPU back-cavity insert, with good feedback, but mishits feel dead as the insert over-dampens. Excellent when struck well, flat when not.
Sound
A bold click - a bold, crisp click on centered contact, a clean impact note that pairs with the feel. Satisfying on center, muted on the miss.
Looks at address
Divisive - the head is boxy, with a tall heel and a straight leading edge that looks square rather than round, though others are more neutral on the clean tour shape and raw finish. A polarizing, function-first look.
