Watch
Rated highest for feel and sound; its softest dimension is workability.
You have a fast swing and spin the ball too much - the LST cuts spin for long, penetrating drives while staying more forgiving than most low-spin heads.
You have a moderate or slow swing, launch it low already, or want maximum forgiveness - the G430 Max is the easier, straighter choice.
Pros
- Among the fastest drivers of 2023 - ~167mph ball speed, on par with the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond and Cobra Aerojet
- Low spin and low launch (~200rpm less than the G430 Max, fitters seeing 300-400rpm) for long, penetrating drives
- Surprisingly forgiving for a low-spin head - gives up almost nothing in ball speed versus the Max, even on heel mishits
- Significantly improved, more solid sound and feel over the G425 - a quieter thud with a touch of pop
Cons
- Mishits fly further offline than the max-MOI G430 Max - the low-spin trade-off
- A compact, low-launch head built for fast swings - slower or higher-flight players should look at the Max
By dimension
Forgiveness
StrongRemarkable for a low-spin head - it gives up almost nothing in ball speed versus the G430 Max, with ball speed and smash staying high even on heel-side mishits, the one trade-off being that mishits fly further offline than the Max. Surprisingly forgiving for the type, and the carbon-fibre wrap crown lifts MOI over the G425 LST, keeping it far more stable than most low-spin drivers.
Distance
ExcellentOne of the fastest of its year - around 167 mph ball speed, up there with the fastest from any of the 2023 drivers, alongside the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond and Cobra Aerojet, with about 200 rpm less spin than the Max (fitters seeing 300-400 rpm). The low-spin, low-launch flight converts directly into long drives - elite speed for a high-spin fast swinger.
Workability
SolidA tuneable players' head - a movable tungsten backweight that legitimately changes ball flight, a draw setting worth 7-10 yards right-to-left and a fade setting for a reliable cut without changing setup, in a compact 440cc shape that's more workable than the larger Max. A genuine shot-shaping tool for the better player.
Feel
ExcellentPremium and solid - significantly improved feel over the G425, a solid impact that's a clear step up, powerful and informative. A satisfying, energetic tour feel that betters the previous generation.
Sound
ExcellentPing's big fix - quieter than the G425 LST, with a solid impact closer to a thud, though it keeps a bit more pop than the Max on centre. Dramatically improved over the G425 - controlled and much-improved, with a satisfying note of pop.
Looks at address
ExcellentCompact and premium - the most compact G430 at 440cc, a cleaner, more traditional shape than the larger Max, a confident tour look with a carbon-fibre wrap crown adding a premium finish. Tidy and confidence-inspiring, if it keeps the line's busy crown detailing.
