- Feel84
- Forgiveness82
- Sound80
Watch
Rated highest for feel and forgiveness; its softest dimension is workability.
A 15-30 HCP at 75-95mph who fights a slice or struggles to flight the ball high enough — wants the most-forgiving Mavrik with a draw-biased SGI build at a now-reduced pre-owned price.
You already hook the ball, you're a low-mid HCP shotmaker, or you want a clean players-iron topline (use Mavrik Pro or Apex line instead).
Pros
- Larger SGI shape + wider sole + deeper CG for top-tier mishit protection
- Crushed shots all flew the same distance; mishits only ~10yd short in testing
- Easiest-to-launch Mavrik iron — 30° 7-iron + tungsten weighting help moderate swing speeds get the ball airborne
- 2020 Golf Digest Hot List Gold Winner (Super Game-Improvement) alongside the rest of the MAVRIK line
Cons
- Shot patterns sit entirely on the left side of center — Max imposes a draw bias
- Didn't feature among the fastest or longest in 2020 GI testing despite the weakest lofts in category
- Thick topline + significant offset called out as visually busy behind the ball
- Now 5 years old — superseded by Big Bertha B21, Rogue ST Max OS, Paradym X, and Elyte HL / Elyte Max Fast on the SGI side
By dimension
Forgiveness
ExcellentSuper game-improvement iron with a larger shape, wider soles, and a deeper CG for maximum forgiveness and easier launch. Crushed shots all flew the same distance; misses only 10 yards short of better swings. Off-center hits felt surprisingly solid thanks to urethane microspheres, with clear feedback on toe/heel without sting. The larger profile and deeper CG ensures maximum mishit protection. Shares AI-designed Flash Face Cup + Tungsten Energy Core + 360 face cup with the Mavrik standard. Top-tier SGI forgiveness — slight bump over Mavrik standard via SGI geometry.
Distance
StrongDidn't feature among the fastest or longest irons in 2020 GI category testing despite the joint weakest loft. Ball speed is practically the same as the Standard Mavrik, but distance is slightly decreased due to higher launch and marginally higher spin rates, plus weaker lofts. Top-end ball speed actually exceeded Mavrik standard and Pro on the best swings. 7-iron loft is 30° (vs Mavrik standard 27°). Above-average SGI distance — same AI Flash Face Cup speed but weaker lofts and higher launch trade total carry for stopping power.
Workability
ModestDesigned for the player who wants to hit long draws — shot patterns are very tight but entirely on the left side of the center line. Thick topline and significant offset make it visually busy behind the ball. Positioned as the easiest-to-launch iron for moderate swing speeds. Weaker lofts + larger profile + deeper CG = explicit SGI build. Below-average workability — explicit draw bias with shot patterns entirely on the left side of center + large offset + thick topline + SGI geometry.
Feel
ExcellentContact felt surprisingly solid thanks to one million urethane microspheres. Shots on the center are crisp and definitely feel fast, but the face doesn't feel thin and click-y. Significant feedback on heel/toe strikes without sting. Described as having a buttery feel with that springier sensation, feeling a bit hotter off the face. Mishits feel more similar to sweet spot strikes. Shared urethane microspheres + suspended tungsten core damping with the standard Mavrik. Above-average feel — solid centered contact, springier than the standard with urethane damping flattening mishit feel toward sweet spot.
Sound
StrongEach iron tuned to have its own sound — the Max specifically engineered to target specific frequencies to sound powerful (contrasting with the Pro's muted forged sound). Crisp contact that definitely feels fast. Urethane microspheres + suspended tungsten core keep vibration frequency low to give the irons a powerful muted sound preferred by most golfers. Heel/toe mishits give clear acoustic feedback without sting. Above-average sound — engineered to sound powerful for the SGI buyer; less muted than the players-tier Pro but consistent with category expectations.
Looks at address
StrongNot the prettiest irons to look at behind the ball because of the very thick topline and varying degrees of offset. Much larger footprint with significant offset. Larger body and a deeper CG. Modern matte/satin Mavrik finish. Below-average address looks for the iron category — function-first SGI shape with thick topline + heavy offset + wide sole is appropriate for the target buyer but explicitly noted as visually busy by reviewers.
